What To Expect

Ed works mostly online, though in person sessions can be incredibly beneficial where possible. This gives you flexibility of time and location, irrespective of where you might be.

Initial Contact

New clients will usually contact by email, through the online contact form or directly by phone. To start with, we will have a phone conversation at a time that is convenient. This is free and and without obligation - the aim is to establish the nature of the issue, discuss what outcome is likely to be achievable and what sort of therapy or coaching might be suitable. Ed will describe the working process in greater detail, give a realistic explanation of the potential therapeutic outcome and likely duration of the intervention, and answer any further questions. You can then schedule the first session, which in most cases will be an assessment and consultation.

Initial Assessment Session

For most conditions an initial assessment and evaluation will be required to establish the full nature and outline of the history of the problem requiring attention from which Ed will construct a bespoke treatment plan. No two clients are the same so there is no ‘standard intervention schedule’, but the treatment is personalised for each individual’s unique situation. Based on availability, preferences and location, this session will take place either online, or in person. This is the point where specific goals are outlined and agreed upon and a working alliance, the essential part of any therapeutic process, begins to develop. Typically clients will start to feel the psychological benefit even at this stage.

Subsequent Sessions

From the start you will be fully involved with the therapeutic process so you are aware of the progress you are making. Treatment length will vary. Therapy for acute conditions usually lasts between 4 and 10 sessions. Clients will often then wish to continue and address chronic issues which have been raised in this process with an agreed period of treatment. The sessions in the initial treatment block should ideally be weekly, but scheduling is always flexible and entirely designed to fit in with your schedule.

Ed will usually suggest some 'homework' tasks or assignments to aid the process of your improvement. Great strides in development can be made between sessions and it is important that the topics we discuss and work on in consultation are put into practice between times.

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL
"What a transformational experience it was. I felt listened to and heard. I felt safe. And in this context even the more probing or challenging questions invariably resulted in something worth searching for."

The Therapeutic Alliance

During the ongoing process of therapy, a therapeutic alliance is developed to achieve the mutually agreed goals. This means that both therapist and client are active participants in the process - therapeutic teamwork. This involves openness and an environment of trust, complete acceptance and non-judgement. Ed provides a safe, supportive and confidential environment for his clients to work through their issues at their own pace.

Code of Ethics

Ed adheres to the code of ethics set down by the National Council for Hypnotherapy.
